Volunteer at VEX World Championship

Dear Prospective Volunteer,

Event volunteers are the heart and soul of VEX competitions. We rely on Referees to keep things fair, Emcees to keep things exciting, and Queuers to keep things on schedule! Volunteering at VEX Worlds is easy, fun, and rewarding for everyone involved.

Be part of something BIG, give back to your community and show your support for the brightest student minds in the World as they come together for a massive competition celebrating STEM education, collaboration, hard work, and year-round dedication.

Volunteers are a vital part of making this exciting experience possible for students. By participating as a volunteer you’ll show your passion for the importance of STEM education, and inspire our future.

Sincerely,

Taunja Weber, CVA

Our Mission

The Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation seeks to increase student interest and involvement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by engaging students in hands-on sustainable and affordable curriculum-based robotics engineering programs. We are creating an environment where all students design and innovate as part of a team, experience failure, persevere, and embrace STEM.

Our Vision

We see a future where all students design and innovate as part of a team, experience failure, preserve, and embrace STEM. These lifelong learners emerge confident in their ability to make the world a better place.

VEX Robotics World Championship

At the VEX Robotics World Championship, students gather from around the world to showcase their STEM problem solving abilities, share their enthusiasm, and build community. Recognized as the largest robot competition by Guinness World Records, this annual event brings 1,900 top teams together to celebrate their achievements and compete with the best in the world.

Group Volunteers

Would you and your peers/co-workers like to be a part of the largest robotics event in the world? Group volunteers are not only welcome but a necessity to make this event a success. Join our volunteer team, get inspired, and have fun! If your company or organization is looking for a great way to make a difference and create a team-building experience that is mutually beneficial, please contact volunteer@roboticseducation.org.

Volunteer Roles

Judge

Anyone can be a Judge, and no engineering experience is necessary. You will simply be assigned to judge a non-technical aspect of the competition if you are not familiar with robotics. This role is interactive and inspirational, as Judges get to talk with teams and view their work.

Field Reset

If you want to bring your kids, you can all volunteer together, provided that spots are still available. Even younger kids enjoy Field Reset. They set up the scoring objects on the field after the team finishes their match, using a simple diagram as reference.

Inspector

This role is enjoyed by detail-oriented people. Inspectors follow a checklist to make sure that the competition robots are compliant with all the rules (adults only, and training is quick and easy).

Queuing

This is an easy role that gets you near the action where the student teams are competing. The Queue Crew uses a team list to make sure all teams are guided to the correct competition field. This is a great family role, as parents can Queue while kids do Field Reset in the same area.

Scorekeeper Referee

This role is simple. You use a computer to start and stop a timer. That’s it! Easy to learn.

Make Your Mark

Get inspired by the brightest student minds as they come together to celebrate STEM education, collaboration, hard work, and dedication. Many volunteer roles do not require previous experience, and we provide online training resources to prepare you for most positions. We are in greatest need of volunteers who can help all day or multiple days, but a wide variety of shifts are available to fit your schedule.

Volunteer Background Check Policy

In the best interest of our students, and for the safety of everyone participating in VEX Worlds 2021, we are requiring all volunteers to undergo criminal background screenings that comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The REC Foundation partners with the industry leader in volunteer screening services, Sterling Volunteers, to provide a secure online volunteer screening platform that allows the volunteer to enter and control their information when ordering a background check. Please direct any questions or concerns regarding the background screening process to hr@roboticseducation.org.
