The Robotics Education & Competition (REC) Foundation seeks to increase student interest and involvement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by engaging students in hands-on, sustainable and affordable curriculum-based robotics engineering programs.

The REC Foundation seeks to partner with colleges and universities to offer a scholarship program that will encourage students in our programs to continue their education and pursue careers in STEM.

Florida Inst Tech 241w

Florida Institute of Technology

$540,000

The Florida Institute of Technology is offering ten scholarships at $13,500 per year, renewable for four years. The scholarships require that students are admitted to the Florida Institute of Technology. Candidates must be members of a VEX robotics team during their senior year in high school.  Proof of affiliation at the time of admission is a requirement.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

$400,000

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will provide 10 scholarship of $10,000 renewable up to 4 years to students who participate in the VRC. Students may pursue any field of academic study. The scholarship is open to US as well as international students. Applications should be submitted by students in their Junior year of high school. Applicants will also be required to submit a letter of recommendation from a team adult mentor/coach and a personal essay.

VEX Kettering Logo

Kettering University

$225,000

Kettering University will provide up to 10 scholarships with a value up to $5,000 renewable up to 4.5 years to students who participate in the VRC program.  Students must be full time and may pursue any field of academic study.

The scholarship is open to US citizens. Applicants do not have to be residents of the State of Michigan to apply. Applications should be submitted by students in their Senior year of high school. Two letters of recommendation are required. One of the letters of recommendation must be from a team adult mentor/coach. Applicants must also submit a personal essay.

Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

$200,000

Up to five scholarships will be presented at the Indianapolis VRC competition to the winners of the Excellence Award. Each Scholarship is valued at $10,000 for four years. Students must apply and be accepted to The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. This Scholarship is open to high school juniors and seniors. Early action admission is required.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

$125,000

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University will award a merit scholarship in the amount of up to $5,000, per year of attendance (up to $25,000), to high school seniors who are active members of a VEX team at any high school in the country or its territories. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Complete an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University VEX Scholarship Application (including essay on VEX involvement—500 words or less)
  • Complete an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University application for admission
  • Submit a high school transcript which should include, at minimum, the grades from the final semester/marking period of the junior year
  • Submit all SAT and/or ACT test scores
  • Be accepted to the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

One scholarship valued at $20,000 for four years and three scholarships valued at $2,500 for four years.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

$100,000

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides numerous scholarships ranging in value from $1,000 to $100,000. Applicants must have senior level standing in high school with a minimum 2.76 GPA. Scholarships will be given for both financial need and academic merit to full time students planning to attend accredited post-secondary institutions, vocational or technical schools. These scholarships are open to US citizens and permanent residents.

Applicants are required to submit a team Mentor/Coach letter of recommendation as well as a personal essay.

The Arizona State University offers up to six scholarships of $3,000 per year, renewable for up to 5 years to full time ASU students who are studying the fields of Engineering, Computer Science and Construction. Applicants must be admitted as an undergraduate student to ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering for the upcoming academic year and have been a participant in at least one full season of a regional or national science, math or engineering competition within the past two years.

Wheaton College will provide 1 scholarship of $20,000 per year renewable up to 4 years to students who participate in the VRC program. Students may pursue any field of academic study. The scholarship is open to US as well as international students. Applications should be submitted by students in their Junior or Senior year of high school. Applicants must apply to Wheaton College and be accepted to Wheaton college to be eligible. The successful applicant must maintain a 3.0 GPA while at Wheaton College. The scholarship will be integrated with need based eligibility by Wheaton college.

The University of Advancing Technology is providing scholarships to senior level students who are currently on VRC teams. Both scholarships have minimum GPA requirements. The The University of Advancing Technology Robotics Scholarship is $1,250 per semester renewable up to $10,000. The The University of Advancing Technology Murphy Robotics Scholarship is $5,000 per semester renewable up to $40,000.

In support of the REC Foundation mission, and in recognition of the achievements of VEX Robotics Competition participants, MIT has established an endowment to be used to help fund need-based scholarships for students enrolled at MIT who participated in VEX Robotics Competition during high school. Students awarded need-based MIT scholarships should mention their VEX Robotics Competition involvement in the online Student Information Review Form, required of all undergraduates who have received MIT Scholarship aid.

 

Further information about MIT and its undergraduate curriculum may be found at www.mitadmissions.org/. Deadline for financial aid materials is February 15th.
