Which volunteer roles are available at the VEX Robotics World Championship?

How long is a typical volunteer shift at VEX Worlds?
Shifts vary based on position, and can be 4-10 hours. We are in greatest need of volunteers who can help all day, and you can sign up for one shift or multiple shifts. We are always looking for people who can volunteer over multiple days if it suits your schedule.
Who can volunteer?
Make volunteering a family affair! Younger students who can pay attention to directions make great Field Reset volunteers, and you can choose shifts in the same area to volunteer together in most cases. You can register together using the Group Registration Form.
How do I register to volunteer?
This year we are offering an entirely new scheduling platform called Shiftboard, featuring self-scheduling online, making it easy for you to select and view your shifts from any computer or mobile device. To apply, please fill out either the VEX World Championship Volunteers Individual Registration Form (one only) or the Group Registration Form (two or more) today!
How do I sign up for volunteer shifts?
Please Note that shifts are currently not available for scheduling; they will become available as the event gets closer. You must first register using the online Shiftboard system in order to receive an email notification when shifts are ready to view.
I Have Registered in the new Shiftboard system — How do I log in?
Once you have registered, you will get a confirmation email with your username and temporary password. Click the link to activate your new account, and bookmark the Sign-On page for VEX World Championship Volunteers to log in, change your password, and update your profile.
What travel accommodations are available?
Visit the Hotel Booking Site for a great selection of accommodations and discounted rates. You can book hotels based on the dates you are volunteering.
NOTE: After you select your hotel and click “book hotel,” you are taken to an online form to make your reservation. Select “Registered Team” for the first question, and in the next dropdown for “Team,” please select: “2017 VEX STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, SPONSORS, MEDIA” near the top of the list.
Volunteers are responsible for making their own arrangements for travel between the Louisville Airport (SDF) and their hotel. Information about ground transportation services can be found on the airport’s website. Additional travel information can be found on the Team Travel Page.
Does VEX Robotics or the REC Foundation cover my travel costs if I volunteer?
Volunteers are responsible for making their own arrangements for transportation and hotels, and enjoy the same travel benefits as attending teams. VEX Robotics and the REC Foundation are not able to cover travel costs for volunteers.
Is there a shuttle running from my hotel to the Kentucky Exposition Center?
Check back in the weeks before VEX Worlds 2017 for a schedule of shuttles running between area hotels and the Kentucky Exposition Center during VEX Worlds.
How is parking handled for volunteers? Do I get a parking pass?
All volunteers working one entire day or more will receive a parking pass valid for the duration of the event. We will send information on pass distribution as the event gets closer.
For volunteers working only one half-day shift, the Normal Daily Rate is $8/day (no in/out privileges) or $12/day (with in/out privileges).
Note: Parking is free Wednesday, April 19 and Sunday, April 23.
How can I get a VEX Worlds volunteer shirt? Can I purchase one?
VEX Robotics World Championship Volunteer t-shirts are provided to people volunteering for an entire day or more. Shirts are not provided to half-day volunteers. Volunteer shirts are not available for purchase.
Are meals provided for volunteers?
Meals and snacks are provided throughout the day for volunteers based on the length of your shift. All-day volunteers will get breakfast and lunch, plus snacks and beverages. Half-day volunteers may get a meal or a snack depending on the start and end times of the shift itself.

When are different teams competing?
The VEX Robotics Competition and VEX U (middle/high school and university teams) portion of the event will be held April 19-22; and the VEX IQ Challenge (elementary/middle school teams) portion will be held April 23-25, 2017.
